October highlights from Hiltingbury Interiors

Hello,

September and October is the Interior Design and Home Furnishing exhibitions season.  Well known brands also release their latest collections, along with new and emerging businesses launching their product ranges.  There’s always new innovation, and fresh designs and products to get excited about!

Bex and I have visited Focus23 and Decorex and we’re buzzing with what’s new in the industry!  It’s great to get out and chat with other designers and suppliers, touch and feel new products, source items for client projects and decide where the gaps are in our brand and product portfolio.

Here are a few of our new favourite things!

1) Bert & May and Artisans of Devises - both mastering the use of recycled materials to make amazing tiles. Artisans of Devizes have a gorgeous range of mosaics and kit-kat tiles we fell in love with. We were also delighted to see the extensive colour spectrum of plain tiles from Bert and May, and look forward to receiving our sample box soon!

2) Forbes and Lomax - switches and sockets, we particularly love the clear switches to install with wallpaper and paint-able sockets to use in panelling and cabinetry.

3) Curiousa - their lighting stand at Decorex stopped us in our tracks with their display of candy inspired lamps and pendant lights...  Think sweetie bracelet but in lighting!  Check out their website here for a bit of inspiration if you are looking for unusual or statement lighting.

4) Orac Decor - panelling, mouldings, coving and skirtings.  Continuing the trend for wall slatting and panelling, Orac Deco offer a range of non-wood designs that come primed ready for painting.

Fabric wise it was great to see the Sophie Robinson and Harlequin collaboration in all its glory. Bex and Rachel also enjoyed a Webinar on the collection’s concept and creation, and a masterclass in how to do “maximalism” from the queen of colour and pattern herself, Sophie Robinson. Here are their top five takeaways: -

  • Embrace colour, unlock the joys and don’t fear it!

  • Find your ‘jumping off point’, your initial inspiration, be it artwork or a cushion

  • Consider what ‘feeling’ you wish to create in the room; calm, focused, relaxed…

  • Choose your hero colour (approx 70%), add in a secondary colour (30%) then your brightest colour as an accent in small doses.  Not having colours in equal measure will create balance in your scheme.

  • When mixing patterns there needs to be a common theme, be it a motif, or usually a colour, maybe several shades of one colour, or flashes of one colour.

Full on maximalist interiors is not for the faint hearted, and personally not something I could live with in my own home.  We do love the designs in this, and other new collections, so will be sharing ways you can incorporate them into your home in our next newsletter.  We’ll be taking a neutral base and adding pops of bold colour and pattern, giving personality, creating stylish and unique schemes in a comfortable way.

Keep your eyes on our up and coming social media posts and next months newsletter for case studies on this.

Have a great week,

With love
Becci
