Happy Easter from Hiltingbury Interiors!

Hello,

*Blink* and just like that another month is gone and we are heading swiftly into April, Easter and of course the clocks are going back this weekend. The sun has started showing itself momentarily and we are busy with designs and installations in homes around Chandlers Ford and Winchester. Also Interior Design Masters is back on our screens on BBC1 and wow some of those designers are really pushing the boundaries of interior design with mixed results, it's great viewing!

Biophilic design and styling

A subject that we have started to hear our clients mention more and more is biophilic design. Our desired connection with the outdoors is growing; our wish for fresh air, blue skies, greenery, the smell of fresh cut grass and flowers, engaging all of our senses… especially after such a long wet winter!

We often strive to incorporate foliage into our schemes, from a single plant on a table, to a large collection of potted plants on the floor making a bigger statement. We regularly use the term; ‘Bringing the outside in’ to define the addition of greenery within the home. There is certainly a resurgence in planting indoors aiming to boost your wellbeing, and of course the sharing of skills to keep them alive!

We love the fern light fitting above from Dowsing and Reynolds, this would look fabulous over a kitchen island or dining table. The other day, I even came across a couple of companies selling living moss wall panels to be used in the home and office environment, which I have to say I'm quite keen to try. If you were to replicate the above image it would be like creating an outside bathroom! Living plant walls have been made easier to maintain with kits like this from John Lewis, also shown above.

Foliage design on walls and windows

There are some great fabrics around that embrace and enhance this look, whether it’s foliage design itself or just natural textures that create a simple backdrop to the scheme. This is where you can introduce additional colour, as printed designs come in all manner of colourways - pink, purple and orange leaves are all possible if that takes your fancy?! Here’s some fabrics from Prestigious Textiles (shown above) that showcase the great outdoors indoors.

Little Greene has a fabulous collection of authentic green paints created in association with the National Trust. Their partnership has also resulted in four beautiful wallpaper collections. These feature a range of exciting designs, many of which can help to link the indoor and outdoor vibe. The latest one, National Trust Papers IV has a range of eight historic wall papers across 42 colourways.  This collection is versatile and eclectic, comprising of birds, florals and trails.

I feel like we're still waiting for Spring to actually "spring"! The sunshine is only short lived before the wind and rain returns... I think we all need to manifest positive thoughts of al fresco dining and decking our house out ready for summer in preparation for the longer, lighter nights. Surely it's got to brighten up soon?!

Do get in touch if any of our newsletter contents resonates with you and if you need a little assistance in your home.

Have a wonderful Easter weekend,
With love
