Home trends for 2024 from the team at Hiltingbury Interiors

Hello,

So here we are... raring to go and just like that January is nearly over! It’s comforting to be a fabulous team of four, all ready to see our projects through from concept to completion.  We kicked off the year with planning sessions and had a great discussion on how we can improve our services and create some truly fantastic interiors.  We also took the chance to review and discuss the predicted interior trends for the year, deliberating which ones we are likely to get on board with and which might just be a fleeting trend.

All the publications and paint brands are stating that peach is in!  Pantone colour of the year is 'Peach Fuzz'... so how will we be combining it in our projects?  You could say it’s an earthy orange and will work well with neutral tones, which incidentally are also on the cards for 2024. Warm, natural, earthy brown tones are said to be the go-to base colours.  This links nicely to the confirmation that greys are gone, make of that as you will, but I am inclined to agree that grey has 'had its day'. I am sure it will be back and it is still a very valid, calming colour, so no need to go and redecorate if all of your existing home is grey-based!

Not only are we seeing more 'Peach' but also warm autumnal tones are coming in, plus a nod towards blue, cool and warm shades. The important question is, where and how to use these colours?  I’d suggest you add it in small doses - either in a patterned tile, on window dressings, perhaps a wallpaper pattern or a statement piece of furniture.  I struggle to see many people using it as a colour drench across a whole room, but never say never, with the right place and person, maybe!

Houzz suggests that curves, arches, soft textures and comfy couches are here for 2024. We have already seen this in projects and at trade shows such as Decorex where the curve is certainly being introduced in several ways; whether it be the wooden statement arm of a new chair, large sofas and chairs that appear to hug and cocoon you, or easier additions such as artwork and interior accessories.  Further linking to the theme, the use of ruffles and frills on fabrics are having a resurgence and we are certainly already seeing this in the addition of trims to both cushions and blinds gaining more popularity with our clients. I mean who doesn’t like a tassel or embroidered trim?!

Wallpaper is going to be big.  We incorporated more wallpaper into homes in 2023 than previous years.  We have some really exciting cloakrooms to show you soon, where the customers have not held back!  Regarding spatial design and usage, multifunctional spaces are still going strong with a need for dining, working, entertaining and relaxing still to overlap, in order to make the best use of our homes without leaving unused space. Blending nostalgia with modern-day now takes common place, for instance a vintage piece, (something from your Granny’s home!) can be juxtaposed with new contemporary furniture... it’s a skill to get the balance right, but it can be done with beautiful results.

Oh, one more thing to note, something that we promote in all interiors is biophilic design - adding those plants, encouraging oxygen creation, wellbeing and generally enjoying being able to keep them alive!!

So that’s a wrap on where things might be heading in 2024, or at least a heads up on what you will be seeing more of in stores, magazines and social media.  As ever, we (along with our customers), make the decisions over the balance of utilising trends, mixed with general preferences, coupled with the suitability to each individual home or room.

On a very final positive note, we have had numerous project enquiries to kick start the year with... I suspect due to families spending the festive period at home and pondering how they can update and utilise their homes better.  We do have space in the diary for 2024 projects so please do get in touch, even if you suspect your project might be implemented later in the year, it’s never too early to have a discussion.

With love

Becci x
